Hakka Floral Fabric

Hakka floral fabric, a kind of traditional cloth in Taiwan , is a bright red cloth with big patterns of peony flowers on it. The bright red colour and the peony flowers mean happiness and wealth. In the past, many people in Taiwan used it to make curtains, pillows, quilts, scarves and so on. Hakka floral fabric was very common in Taiwan . About the origin of Hakka floral fabric, some say Hakka people in the past were so poor that they would make good use of     the leftover cloth and sew each piece together. That became the colorful cloth which we call Hakka floral fabric today!!

Pearl Milk Tea + Taiwanese Table Manners

I think "Pearl Milk Tea"(珍珠奶茶) can best represent Taiwanese culture. I like milk tea very much, I drank milk tea every day in this year's summer vacation. And the tapioca pearl is very special for foreigners. It's very chewy. So pearl plus milk tea is a perfect combination to represent Taiwanese culture.   There are so many bothering Taiwanese table manners when you're eating with the elders. It drives me nuts! But I figure out some great solutions: 1. Don't do anything until someone tells you to. 2. Always wear a big smile. 3. Stay quiet. I hope these manners will disappear over the years in the future!

Taipei Story House ~Story of Dolls~ Exhibition

圖片
This summer I went to Taipei Story House, it's a beautiful old house with a large garden. I'm very excited because during 2011/7/16~2012/1/1, Taipei Story House will be full of dolls! That day was very hot, I went to Taipei Story House with my dad. As soon as we stepped in the house, two staffs told us that we CANNOT TAKE PHOTOS!!! I am sooooo disapointed, I've been looking forward to taking pictures with cute teddy bears all day! Taking a picture wouldn't hurt the teddy bears, would it? There are many sections in house: teddy bear section, barbie section, japanese doll section, modern doll section, paper doll section...... and lots more! Because of the "cannot take photos" rule, I can only take photos outside, which was not so interesting as the dolls.

A Field Trip to Jhouzai Wetland

After a happy four-day break, came another happy Wednesday, because our English Club BBC went on a field trip to Lotus Pond and Jhouzai Wetland!   I ate my lunch extra fast that day, but I was still slower than the others. Right after that, I took my schoolbag full of food and went on the bus. I ate and ate and ate all the way to Jhouzai Wetland. There were two reasons: 1.Eating can prevent me from getting carsick. 2.I really love to eat!   At Jhouzai Wetland, a volunteer introduced many of the plants, animals, and insects in the Wetland to us. I took tons and tons of photos, most of them were plants. Once, we saw some caterpillars, Sandy and many other girls thought that they were disgusting, but I thought they were cute! I had raised a few caterpillars before, so I guess I'm more familiar with them.   Although getting to learn about plants were fun, I still got tired. When we were finally returning to school, a tragety happened. The bus driver couldn't fi...

A Nightmare

Then, I fainted.   When I finally woke up, it was morning already. I was confused at first, because another woman who looked just like me walked toward me holding my daughter.   “You have no idea who I am,” she said, “Do you?” I made no response. “I am the other you and I come to take your place,” she paused, “well, not exactly. I’m a Zompeeliny, and I changed my appearance so I can look like you.” she said. “Your cute little babysitter over there was not very cooperative.” The babysitter’s neck was bent in a queer way. “And your daughter will end up like her if you won’t change your place with me.” she added.   “So, your identity and property are mine now. Agree?” she asked. ”Oh! Um… I…” I mumbled. ”I’ll take that as a yes!” she said. “By the way, I forgot to tell you that your daughter had somehow figured out that I was not you, so she’ll die no matter what.” “What! You liar!” I shouted. “Can’t help it! I live within lies.” she said in a happy tone. I panicked. W...

My Best Friend

圖片
I have many friends in Taiwan. Some have been my best friends since we were in elementary school. I went to the movies with them, went to each other’s house for sleepovers, prepared for the tests with them, and told each other everything. There is no secret among us. I think every one of them is my best friend. It’s really hard to pick the “best” one. So, I’m going to tell you about my best friend in Australia. When I first arrived in Australia, I didn’t know anyone at school, and my English was so bad then. My teacher told Margarita to take care of me. She is tall and slim, she has long honey gold hair, and she’s very gentle. She told me where the classrooms were, and she taught me a lot of things. We played together at break times. I made more friends because of her. Once, we even opened a saloon with Nastasja and Annie! The break times in Australia are longer than the break times in Taiwan, so our saloon opened at break times. At first, we were only playing by ourselves, but then, r...
